The arts district. The food truck capital. The neighborhood that defines modern Austin — for better and worse.

The Vibe

East Austin is Austin's creative heart. East of I-35, the neighborhood has transformed from a historically Black and Latino community into the city's most dynamic food, art, and nightlife district. The gentrification debate is real and ongoing, but the result is a neighborhood unlike anywhere else in Texas.

The Food

Bufalina

Neapolitan pizza that rivals anything in New York or Italy. The margherita is perfect. Reservations essential.

Nixta Taqueria

James Beard-nominated. Handmade corn tortillas, creative fillings. The duck carnitas are transcendent.

Suerte

Elevated Mexican cuisine. The masa dishes are the star. Beautiful space, serious cocktails.

Franklin BBQ

The line. THE line. 3-4 hours for the best brisket on Earth. Is it worth it? Yes. Bring a chair and a book.

La Barbecue

Franklin's rival. Some say the sausage is better. Shorter line. Different energy. Both are correct.

Ramen Tatsu-Ya

Started as a food truck, now an empire. The Original tonkotsu is soul food. Late night hours.

The Breweries

Lazarus Brewing (tacos + beer in a converted church), Blue Owl Brewing (sour beers, the Spirit Animal is legendary), Zilker Brewing (the Marco IPA is Austin in a glass), Meanwhile Brewing (massive outdoor space, food trucks, movie nights).
